Non-Verbal Communication

Non-verbal communication includes facial expressions, the tone and pitch of the voice, signals showed through body language and the actual distance between the communicators. These non-verbal signs can give hints and additional information and extra data and above spoken (verbal) communication. The Non-Verbal Communication is the way of conveying meaning without the utilization of words either written or spoken. In such any communication made between at least two or more persons through the use of facial expressions, body language, hand movements, postures and signals is called as non-verbal communication. People utilize non-verbals to communicate emotions and relational attitudes, direct rituals like greetings and present one’s personality. The non-verbal communication in the form of signals, expressions add importance over the verbals and assist individuals to communicate more efficiently. The non-verbal communication characterize the distance between the communicators and assists them to exchange their emotional state of mind. It directs the flow of communication, for example an individual can give signals to pass on that he had completed the process of speaking or else he needs to talk.

In our daily life we express happiness, displeasure, Difficulty through non-verbal communication. This includes body language, facial expressions and posture. A security guard in communicate him should utilized minimum of non-verbal communication. There are some important aspects about non-verbal communication given as under :-

Static Features

  • Distance : One should keep a distance of least one foot while communicating with another person.
  • Posture :  for a security guard, there are two stances which are fundamental. Consideration and stand-at-ease, which must be received while on the duty.
  • Signals with hands : a security guard must avoid touching another person when communication, lest it is taken otherwise.

Dynamic Features

  • A security guard must train to look straight into the eyes of another person when communication, however it should always be done pleasantly.
  • While talking keep hands on the side and avoid making gestures like pointing a finger or making a clenched fist.
  • A smiling face when communicating always helpful and a good body language. A security guard must cultivate this as a habit to make a cheerful face when communicating. Must avoid raising eyebrows and never yarn when communicating with another person.

CORRECT POSTURES

 A correct Posture is defined as : A frame of mind affecting one’s thoughts or behavior and an overall attitude : thus implying that if a security guard’s posture is correct, his behavior is correct, his overall attitude is correct. It is therefore important that a Security Guard practices to maintain a correct posture and good bearing. There are a number of illustrations shown in subsequent images, which give difference between correct and incorrect posture and body positions. “Practice Makes a Man Perfect”. Hence when a Security Guard learns to maintain correct postures as illustrated, he will automatically maintain a good bearing, which projects him and his company / employer in good stead.
