Traffic Signs & Control Devices

These are prominently displayed at identified locations under arrangement of the traffic police and are self  explanatory. A security guard needs to get more knowledgeable about these.

Traffic control devices

Traffic control devices are used to maximize vehicle movement and  allow motorists to move more freely on otherwise congested roads. These include traffic signals and signages, pavement markings, ramp meters,  ramp gates etc.

 What is traffic management ?

The term "Traffic Management' is used to describe  how National/ State/ Distriet highway authorities and  respective municipal councils control and make effective use of the road network so as to ensure  regular improvements in road safety and efficiency.

Duties of the guards at parking lots : Make-sure that parking lot instructions are follow carefully then understand local traffic rules and monitor, appropriate.  Always keep the barriers at entry & Exit  Station in down position. Before entering, check the vehicle's boot & underfloor. Regularly check functioning of CCTV cameras. Ensure parking charges are paid before lifting the  parking gate or barrier. Mobile patrolling will be most effective method to keep an eye on the movement of the cars inside a large parking lot.

CORRECT POSTURES

 A correct Posture is defined as : A frame of mind affecting one’s thoughts or behavior and an overall attitude : thus implying that if a security guard’s posture is correct, his behavior is correct, his overall attitude is correct. It is therefore important that a Security Guard practices to maintain a correct posture and good bearing. There are a number of illustrations shown in subsequent images, which give difference between correct and incorrect posture and body positions. “Practice Makes a Man Perfect”. Hence when a Security Guard learns to maintain correct postures as illustrated, he will automatically maintain a good bearing, which projects him and his company / employer in good stead.
